A transgender bus driver for the MTA is speaking out after a co-worker allegedly assaulted
herhim inside a women’s locker room.
Nana Mangual, a transgender woman, told PIX 11 last week that another bus operator attacked
herhim inside a women’s locker room at the Eastchester Bus Depot in the Bronx and told
herhim shehe should be using the men’s room.
Longtime MTA worker Sonia Rivera was charged in connection to the March 17 incident and is accused of yelling an anti-LGBTQ slur at the 36-year-old victim and striking
herhim in the face, according to police.
There was a verbal dispute between the two bus drivers around 4:30 p.m. before Rivera allegedly slapped a phone — that Mangual was using to reportedly record the interaction — out of the victim’s hand and then reportedly slapped
herhim in the face, cops said.
Mangual said the alleged assault happened after
shehe took a shower and began to get dressed, according to PIX 11.
SheHe said Rivera allegedly yelled at
herhim to turn down the gospel music
shehe was playing as the situation further devolved.
