White House Accuses OPEC+ of Siding with Russia After Biden Failure to Get Saudis to Pump More Oil

The White House on Wednesday accused the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+) of siding with Russia by deciding to cut oil production.

“Look, it’s clear that OPEC+ is aligning with Russia with today’s announcement,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said to reporters aboard Air Force One.

President Joe Biden also expressed his concern about the decision, calling it “unnecessary” as he left the White House to travel to Florida to witness the storm damage caused by Hurricane Ian.

The White House was sharply critical of the OPEC+ decision to cut production by two million barrels a day, calling it “short-sighted” and a “mistake.”

The decision proved that Biden’s attempt to smooth his relationship with Saudi Arabia and other allies in the Middle East to encourage more oil production failed.

The president traveled to Saudi Arabia in July and even fist-bumped Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) despite denouncing the country as a “pariah.”

Malarkey, Brandon and the Gaia worshippers are loving OPEC's move. If Brandon really wanted to punish Russia and get back at OPEC for not bowing to the demands of a tin pot dicktator he would go all in on oil production in America and drive down the price of oil globally.

OPEC+ is a group of 24 oil-producing nations, made up of the 14 members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and 10 other non-OPEC members, including Russia.

The OPEC bloc is nominally led by Saudi Arabia, the group’s largest oil producer, while Russia is the biggest player among the non-OPEC countries.

The format was born in 2017 with a deal to coordinate oil production among the countries in a bid to stabilize prices. Since then, the group has reached deals for members to voluntarily cut and ramp-up production in response to changes in global oil prices.

OPEC accounts for around one-third of the world’s oil supply, with the non-OPEC members bringing the total share of global oil covered by the deal to just under half. The world’s largest energy producer, the U.S., is not part of the deal, nor is China or other leading Western producers such as the U.K., Canada and Norway.

Handled exactly bass-ackwards... The only leverage we have over OPEC is out-producing them. Taking American production out of the market is going to raise demand. Higher demand creates a higher price.

The marxist notion that such forces can be regulated is almost farcical.

Of course, the opposite motive could be true - The Marxist left has wanted $7/gal for the US for a long time to even the playing field with Europe and diminish American individuality and autonomy. Maybe the old coot's grumble is 'protesting too much'.
