Governor Greg Abbott signed an executive order on July 7 allowing the Texas National Guard and other law enforcement to apprehend illegal immigrants

On July 9, Abbott announced on Twitter that authorities had begun arresting people and returning them to the
Mexican border

This is the latest move in Abbott's billion-dollar anti-immigration policy known as Operation Law Star

The Department of Justice is investigating the law as it's possible that it's a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act
Operation Lone Star has been described as a 'centerpiece' to Gov. Abbott's reelection campaign
