The same people who weaponized the DOJ, FBI, and CDC cannot be trusted with “red flag” laws. Ever.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

The same politicians assuring us that govt won’t weaponize red flag laws to target conservatives already weaponized the IRS to target conservatives…and the FBI & DOJ & Dept of Ed & HHS… to target conservatives. If you believe them on red flag laws, you’re a fool.

Pretty obvious that McConnell whipped the vote so Murkowski wouldn’t have to vote for it. Why? She’s getting primaried by an actual Republican.

Eerily similar to McCain siding with Dems on ObamaCare to save the RINOS who wanted to keep ObamaCare but didn’t want to face voters.

They made sure that no Republican involved in the gun control crap is in cycle. This is what a party that hates you does. But you will continue to be fooled by Republicans and Fox News and enjoy the show

On this we differ. Sometimes, nothing is exactly what needs to be done. "DOING SOMETHING!!!" when nothing they do will actually stop the problem is part of the problem. Form over substance.

And yes, anything that nibbles away at the 5th amendment and due process, especially involving an enumerated Civil Right is cause for concern, especially when those nibbles at those Rights are so easily politicized and used not to prevent madmen from shooting up schools, but to strip political opponents of their God Given Rights in a proceeding that can be used politically against them without any recourse or right to defend against a presumption of guilt fabricated on thin evidence not obtained under oath. Stacks of red flag orders could be rubber stamped by people who have no clue about the individuals they are targeting, with something as thin as the assertion that "no one needs an AR-15, and you'd have to be crazy to want one".

This is just one more bad direction the country is going in, after decades of resisting this sort of crap, putting a sharp tool in the hands of wannabe totalitarians on both sides of the aisle, especially when the whole atmosphere is steeped in 1/6 "insurrection" nonsense.

I completely agree with you. Most of the time I wish the legislature would do nothing except dismantle most of the federal government, but that is not going to happen.  I was speaking from their point of view, not mine.  From their point of view, they have to be seen as relevant, otherwise they lose all credibility. So therefore they must "do something."  This is pretty much a toothless bill, it could have been much worse.  It is almost all smoke and mirrors with very little substance.

It is the usual list of Quislings, but I want to know what else is tucked into this Bill.

Off topic but in a shout out to Norm Macdonald for the 1st time I ever heard the word "Quisling".

This is pretty much a publicity measure.  There is not much substance to it at all. I do worry about the precedent-setting aspect (ie, "camel's nose" problem), but they have to do something or they lose all credibility as a governing mechanism.

Alright too many Republicans have helped the democrats get their agendas passed, i haven't been happy with that either.  Except far too many Conservative/Republicans right here on this forum helped Democrats defeat Trump, and ended up with this massive nightmare avalanche of desolation and destruction that Biden has lock-stepped woke marcheed and even further trashed Trump after the election. Some would do quite well to look in a mirror before casting the first stones at Trump and Republicans and yet they abstain trashing Biden land democrats like they have Trump and Republicans, regardless of Democrats having been far worse!

Yes,but the Dims are polite, and pretend they care about you SOOOOO much!

Unlike Rude Orange Man,who cares more about logic and what works than "feewings".

But....,cheer up cupcakes, your Dim allies are working night and day to try to destroy the country BEFORE the next election,so you won't have to be faced with making a hard decision.

Or any other decision, because all your "decisions" will be made for you in the Brave New World of your dreams.
