Bidenflation: Prices Are Rising Even Faster Than We Thought

John Carney 31 Mar 2022

Consumer goods and services cost Americans 6.4 percent more than a year prior in February, the latest data from the U.S. government showed on Thursday.

The personal consumption expenditure price index rose by more than expected and indicated that inflation accelerated from the six percent annual rate in January. This was the fastest rate of price increases since 1982.

The Fed prefers the PCE price index because it covers a broader range of goods and services and accounts for consumers substituting cheaper goods or services when prices rise on premium versions.

Core PCE inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, rose by 5.4 percent compared with a year ago.  This is the measure that the Federal Reserve uses for its annual two percent inflation target.

The data show that inflation has shifted from durable goods to services and nondurable goods. Nondurable goods prices were up 1.8 percent, services prices rose 0.3 percent, and durable goods prices were flat.

Food prices jumped 1.4 percent and energy prices soared 3.7 percent compared with January.

I went to the grocery store this a.m. (no meat). :terror:

To add extra excitement to the morning I filled up my truck (half a tank). 8888huh

I haven't been in 2 weeks.  The prices increased in just two weeks.

Yikes!  I am so sorry to hear what you are experiencing.

So far, I'm still able to get meat @Farmer Joes (local produce, dairy, chicken and eggs and Braveheart Angus beef). Prices are holding -- the market is packed every time I go.  I've been trying to keep our freezers stocked as much as we can afford to.

I am avoiding the chain supermarkets as much as I can because they are outrageously priced.

I'm down to about a quarter of a tank and I'm not looking forward to filling up.  Around here price per gallon is reduced if we pay cash.

Please don't let me be understood....there was meat that I gazed at longingly. It wasn't a supply issue. It was a cost issue. Fortunately, I have quite a bit in the freezer. And I'm fishing up a storm! Bass, crappie and catfish are a great substitute. But you really can't make meatloaf with fish, lol.

Wouldn't that make it "fishloaf"?  That sounds strange just typing it!
