This week: Democrats move to prevent shutdown
By Jordain Carney - 02/07/22 06:01 AM EST

Democrats are moving to prevent a government shutdown as an agreement on a longer funding bill remains elusive.

The House is expected to take up a stop-gap bill, known as a continuing resolution, this week, ahead of the Feb. 18 deadline to fund the government. The House is scheduled to leave town after this week until Feb. 28.

Leadership in both chambers have signaled that they expect the CR, which will continue current funding levels, to be a short-term bill. But they haven’t said how long the bill will keep the government funded.

“We're gonna get something done, it'll probably be a short-term CR and it will be this coming week to give us a little more time. Negotiations are very vigorous and I think that we're going to get agreement both on the top line, how much spending is going to be in, and how it will be spent,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told MSNBC on Sunday.

These idiots should have to stay in DC and go to work every day 10 to 12 hours a day until a budget bill is passed. There should never be any reason to ever have a CR. If these idiots were working a real job they'd all would have been fired long ago.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Democrats draft a bill to avert a shutdown (temporarily) while at the same time slipping in some new spending that they neglected to include in their last bill.  Then Democrats accuse Republicans of trying to shut down the government and push grandma off a cliff in her wheelchair if they don't get their way.  Republicans fold, helping the Dems pass the bill.  And then afterwards, Democrats badmouth Republicans for holding up the bill in the first place and for being stupid.

And now it's time for Republicans to line up once again and help the Democrats defeat them politically.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

More snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
