National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the new Omicron Covid variant of COVID-19 was “troublesome” because it could “evade” immunity from the vaccines.

On the current COVID vaccines, Fauci said, “It may not be as good in protecting against initial infection. But it has a very important impact on diminishing the likelihood that you’re going to get a severe outcome from it. So this is a clarion call, as far as I’m concerned, of saying let’s put aside all these differences we have and say, if you’re not vaccinated, get vaccinated. If you’re fully vaccinated, get boosted. And get the children vaccinated.”

Fauci said, “Right now, what we have is we have the window into the mutations that are in this new variant. And they are troublesome in the fact that there are about 32 or more variants in that very important spike protein of the virus, which is the business end of the virus. And there are about ten or more of these mutations that are on that part of the virus. We call it the receptor-binding domain, that actually binds to the cells in your nasopharynx and in your lung.”

Fauci added, “In other words, the profile of the mutations strongly suggests that it’s going to have an advantage in transmissibility and that it might evade immune protection that you would get, for example, from a monoclonal antibody or from the convalescent serum after a person’s been infected, and possibly even against some of the vaccine-induced antibodies. It’s not necessarily that that’s going to happen, but it’s a strong indication that we really need to be prepared for that.”

It will possibly take a yearly vaccine (for those who opt to) just like getting the yearly flu shot.

No reason to shut down the country and there was never a legitimate reason to shut down the country. Close down our borders yes; including the southern borders. Lots of illnesses pouring in that we don't need.

I reported last night on the South African doctor Dr. Angelique Coetzee, the person who identified the new Omicron variant, cautioning people not to freak out or panic. She said they only discovered it this week, so they didn’t have the data yet to make a judgment as to whether it wouldn’t be covered by the existing vaccines, as was the immediate speculation because it was heavily mutated. What Coetzee did note was that was positive was that of the cases she saw, in her words, the symptoms were “extremely mild.” While she said that could change, that’s what they had seen so far.

However, that hasn’t stopped folks from going off half-cocked. Here’s what Dr. Anthony Fauci said today on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos asked if we knew if the new variant caused “more severe disease.”

Fauci responded:

    And we don’t know that. In fact, we were on the phone with our South African colleagues, who have been incredibly good about being so transparent about what’s going on there, on Friday, and we’re meeting with them again today later — a little bit later on, in a couple of hours, to try and find out if the cases that they have identified that clearly are caused by this variant, what is the level of severity in that?

    Hopefully, it will be light but, you know, South Africa has a relatively small proportion of the population that’s vaccinated. So you got to take that into the equation when you’re trying to figure out where this virus is really going and what its impact is going to be. But bottom line, George, we don’t know yet what the level of severity will be.

But we do know what Coetzee said, without the filter of Fauci. Now, again that might change as they get more data in, but right now, the cases they saw were extremely mild, and she cautioned against hasty reactions to it. Notice Fauci didn’t say that, when he must know what she has said. Instead he focused on the possibility that it might be more transmissible and possibly evade the present vaccines. ...

S.African doctor says patients with Omicron variant have "very mild" symptoms

 JOHANNESBURG, Nov 28 (Reuters) - A South African doctor who was one of the first to suspect a different coronavirus strain among patients said on Sunday that symptoms of the Omicron variant were so far mild and could be treated at home.

Dr. Angelique Coetzee, a private practitioner and chair of South African Medical Association, told Reuters that on Nov. 18 she noticed seven patients at her clinic who had symptoms different from the dominant Delta variant, albeit "very mild".

Now designated Omicron by the World Health Organization, the variant was detected and announced by South Africa's National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Nov. 25 from samples taken from a laboratory from Nov. 14 to Nov. 16.

Coetzee said a patient on Nov. 18 reported at her clinic being "extremely fatigued" for two days with body aches and headache.

"Symptoms at that stage was very much related to normal viral infection. And because we haven't seen COVID-19 for the past eight to 10 weeks, we decided to test," she said, adding that the patient and his family turned out to be positive.

On the same day, more patients came in with similar symptoms, which was when she realised there was "something else going on." Since then, she's seen two to three patients a day.

"We have seen a lot of Delta patients during the third wave. And this doesn't fit in the clinical picture," she said, adding she alerted NICD on the same day with the clinical results.

"Most of them are seeing very, very mild symptoms and none of them so far have admitted patients to surgeries. We have been able to treat these patients conservatively at home," she said......................

... The government of Botswana’s Covid-19 Task Force, however, has revealed critical information about the origins of the Omicron variant that is not yet being widely reported in the U.S. media.

... “The preliminary report revealed that all the four had been fully vaccinated for COVID-19,” the report continued. ...

The New York Times did not report that the first patients reported to be Covid positive with the Omicron variant were all “fully vaccinated.” It only held out the possibility that the vaccinated “perhaps” might spread it. ...

While the U.S. media is publicly deliberating about whether or not the Omicron variant can be spread by the ‘fully vaccinated,’ the truth is that they already know it can. The Covid-19 tracing information that is already available shows that the first Omicron variant patients were ‘fully vaccinated,’ yet they refuse to report this in an honest and transparent fashion. It is obvious that the corporate media’s willingness to report the truth is a lot weaker than their loyalty to failed political agendas and addiction to skyhigh profits.
