Volcanic Activity In Japan Is Lifting Abandoned Ships Out Of The Ocean
Rising seabeds and revealing more of these concrete ships.

A jaw-dropping set of photos are going viral on social media showing that volcanic activity is lifting sunken World War II vessels from the depths of the ocean. It has all of the makings of a good and spooky Halloween tale, but the ships have actually been sitting there, visible on the coast for a while. Here’s what’s going on.

In August, an underwater volcano called Fukutoku-Okanoba in the Ogasawara Islands located some 800 miles south of Tokyo, Japan erupted. Fukutoku-Okanoba’s eruption caused a small islet (small island) consisting of pumice and volcanic ash to rise above the waves. A day after, the nearby Nishinoshima volcano erupted for the first time in a year. Japanese publication Asahi Shimbun dispatched an aircraft with reporters and experts to see what’s going on in the region and spotted the ghostly-looking ships sitting on the coast of Iwo To (Iwo Jima) in the process ...

Japanese ghost ships that were sunk by the US during WWII at Battle of Iwo Jima are RAISED from the seabed by tremors from one of island's most active volcanoes

Tremors at Mount Suribachi have resulted in 24 ships being raised after they were sunk by the US as part of the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II
The remaining hulks are what is left of the ships, which were brought to the island because it had no port facilities
The two dozen Japanese transport vessels were captured by the US Navy during WWII and were moved to the western part of the island to form a port
There are no inhabitants on Iwo Jima, but it is occupied by the Japanese military after it was returned by the US in 1968
The seabed has started to rise due to the seismic activity, in particular on the western part of the island

Two dozen ships that sank during the Battle of Iwo Jima, one of World War II's most epic battles and one of the bloodiest in U.S. Marines' history, have been raised from the bottom of the ocean after tremors at one of Japan's most dangerous volcanoes, Mount Suribachi.

Satellite photos from Japan's All Nippon News show the leftover hulks of 24 Japanese transport vessels that were captured by the U.S. Navy in the latter part of the war.

They were moved to the western part of Iwo Jima to form a port, as the island had no such facilities at the time.  ...

I'll bet the sight of those ships coming up from the bottom of the ocean had to be more than a little bit eerie. *bouche*

Ghost Ships from Legendary WWII Battle Suddenly Rise to Surface, Historians Are in Awe
Western Journal

 on October 21, 2021

By Jack Gist, The Western Journal

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” philosopher George Santayana said.

The ghosts of the Battle of Iwo Jima seem to agree.

Two dozen ships that sank during the epic World War II battle in 1945 have been raised from the bottom of the ocean, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail.

The seabed has risen due to volcanic activity from Mount Suribachi, one of the most dangerous in the Pacific’s Ring of Fire. The ships are now sitting on a bed of volcanic ash.
