The incredible (and unique) firepower of the US Army’s Night Stalkers

Stavros Atlamazoglou | October 16, 2021

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment is the U.S. military’s premier rotary-wing special operations unit. Created in the 1980s after the failed attempt to rescue the American hostages from Iran, the “Night Stalkers,” as the unit is nicknamed, has seen action in every major and minor conflict ever since.

These are the pilots who flew the stealth helicopters that carried SEAL Team 6 in the Osama bin Laden raid and the pilots who put the Delta Force operators on the ground during the raid that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State. Simply put, there are no better helicopter pilots in the world.

With a battle-proven motto “Night Stalkers Don’t Quit,” the 160th SOAR brings impressive precision strike capabilities to the U.S. special operations arsenal. A rare video from Iraq showcases their deadly precision, but before we delve into that, let’s go over the Night Stalker arsenal.

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment......

has been laying the damn-damn down on America's enemies for multipe decades, now.

I do not hesitate for a single instant to state that if it weren't for them,a hell of a lot of Special Forces troops would have never lived to go back home to their families.

You call them, they come zooming in to your aid regardless of the risk, and the risk was considerably high too many times.

TOTAL FREAKING PROS!

They never got their due back in the 60's and 70's because almost all the air support they provided was for SF troops working "black operations" in Laos,Cambodia, and North Vietnam.

SF got the glory, and they got ignored, but being the professionals that they are, they soldiered on like the pros they are.

A tip of the beret to each and every one of those Sweet MoFo's,from the ground crews that serviced their helicopters and armaments,to the pilots and gunners.

And pretty much anyybody that wore a beret and went into combat anywhere in the world won't find a single thing I wrote to disagree with.

Those guys have STONES!

Nope, the 160th has been doing that stuff since the 60's. Or at least doing it for SF. I have no idea when they started flying for the SEALS,Force Recon,or anyone else. They were a dedicated unit assigned to fly for Special Operations missions, and back then, that meant SF.
