@mystery-ak You wrote “Since 1934, every October, the United States has recognized the voyage of the European explorers who first landed on the shores of the Americas,” said Harris told the gathering held the day after Columbus Day. “But that is not the whole story. That has never been the whole story."
“Those explorers ushered in a wave of devastation for Tribal nations — perpetrating violence, stealing land, and spreading disease,” she continued. “We must not shy away from this shameful past, and we must shed light on it and do everything we can to address the impact of the past on Native communities today.”

Well, I was born in 1933, one year before "the US recognized the voyage of the European explorers...
Then, Kamala dumped on the Europeans who came here. Those were my English ancestors who settled in the area of Tennessee and fought for England in the war. Then, a bunch of them moved to Arkansas - they were Methodist church preachers and started churches in Arkansas.
You bet we treated Indians poorly, took their land, killed them, moved them to Arkansas and Oklahoma and treated Indians in the west the same way.
Two people can live together okay. Add a third person and two will gang up against one. As more Europeans came here, they ganged up on people who looked different than them and the Indians were very different, so they fought.
That is still happening because that is human nature, "keep it for us, keep different people out".
I am not making an evaluation as to who is right, but rather explaining differences in people.
