Meanwhile America’s oldest ally, France, has recalled its ambassador from Washington for the first time ever, furious over a U.S.-Australia-U.K. security agreement that effectively scuppers a French contract to build submarines for Australia.

Beyond the financial blow, Paris views AUKUS to be sidelining its own deep interests in the Indo-Pacific, where its overseas territories are home to more than 1.6 million French citizens...............
