Racism deprived a WWI hero of the Medal of Honor. A legislator aims to make it right.

At a time when states are restricting the teaching of racism in U.S. history, Rep. Veronica Escobar is calling for a correction of the bigotry that denied a Mexican American World War I hero the nation’s highest military honor.

Escobar, a Texas Democrat, has introduced legislation that would authorize President Joe Biden to posthumously award Marcelino Serna, considered the most decorated WWI soldier from Texas, the Congressional Medal of Honor.

“Our country, unfortunately, has a long history of discriminating against minorities and unfortunately, heroes and women and men who have served on behalf of the military have not escaped that discrimination,” Escobar told NBC News.

News account of his actions would certainly seem to indicate he deserved a MOH.  But, because it is only a news account. and we all know how much news media lies, there is good reason to think this is contrived.  Either way, I hope if he truly earned it he is rewarded and this isn't some more virtue signaling from the media. :pondering:

Escobar herself is a racist bitch,as well as being as dumb as a rock. If he was from Texas,he was an AMERICAN,not a Mexican.

Plus,if he was already "the most decorated soldier from Texas of WW-",HOW THE HELL did racism keep him from getting a MoH. The US Army obviously had no problems giving him medals.

Smells suspiciously like just one more "racial attendance award" to me.

This stuff really isn't that hard to figure out,people.

It is about an American congresscritter who considers herself to be a Mexican giving HERSELF a Medal of Honor by association to help her win an election.

Notice how the racialists are having to go decades into the past to dig out 'racism' they can showcase to drum up the resentment they seek.

Yup,and anybody that thinks that woman gives a damn about this guy,or who had even heard of him before her staff "dug him up for election purposes" is a clueless fool.

I could very easily be wrong,but I strongly suspect that if he were still alive today he would be steamed about how he was being used for political purposes. People who have earned the medals this man earned tend to not like this sort of publicity.

Claiming the US military has discriminated against hispanics by withholding decorations is as laughable as any claim to the facts BLM has made.

The fact he was given a choice between being deported or joining the Army kind of weighs against him. :nono:  I don't know if illegals can be given the MOH.

@rangerrebew

I can't even begin to guess,other than to say the military needed rifle-toters in WW-2,so they maybe/probably relaxed the enlistment requirements and anybody who served a full enlistment was probably given citizenship.

Just guessing,though.
