FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — The first woman to become command sergeant major of a U.S. Army division will step into that role this week in Kentucky.

Command Sgt. Maj. Veronica Knapp will assume responsibility as the senior enlisted adviser of the 101st Airborne Division from Command Sgt. Maj. Bryan Barker.

The ceremony takes place Thursday at Fort Campbell, the 101st said in a news release.

“Command Sgt. Maj. Knapp is the first leader in this historic division to have led both men and women at every level, from team leader to squad leader, all the way through brigade command sergeant major,” said Lt. Col. Kari McEwen, division public affairs officer.

@rangerrebew

Well,the good news here is that if the 101st ever has to make another combat jump,she won't be with them to screw anything up.

HEY! It ain't like a Divisional CSM is an important figure in the command structure anyhow,right?

Maybe they'll give her a plane she jumps from by herself to show the way - about 24 hours before the battle. 333cleo

More likely a week after the battle ends,so she can parachute in on the LZ and take credit for leading the great victory,while "earning" a CIB,jump star on her wings,and most likely a Silver Star or DSC.

And the camera crews will be there to record this great moment in history.
