ASD SO/LIC – Demotion in its Future? Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller had elevated the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC) status within the Defense Department. Most SOF observers commented favorably on this acting by Miller – a former Green Beret. Now it appears that the Biden administration and Secretary of Defense Austin are going to reverse Millers’ decision. The defense secretary is considering lowering the special operations job back into the Pentagon’s policy shop, effectively demoting the position.
