One of President Joe Biden’s advisers expressed genuine shock over the monumental differences in how Florida, under the leadership of GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, managed to keep its COVID-19 death and illness rates stable even though he took an ‘open the economy’ approach rather than a ‘lockdown the economy’ approach, like his blue state rivals.

“I want to start with what we just saw, contrast states like Florida and California,” MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle said to Andy Slavitt, Biden’s senior coronavirus response adviser, during a segment this week. “California, basically in lockdown and their numbers aren’t that different from Florida?”


“Look, there’s so much of this virus that we think we understand that we think we can predict, that’s just beyond, a little bit beyond our explanation, but we do know is that the more careful people are, the more they mask and social distance, and the quicker we vaccinate, the quicker it goes away and the less it spreads,” Slavitt said.

If you compare the per 100K population numbers for cases and deaths of conservatives' bogey states (e.g. CA and NY) and Progs' bogey-states (e.g. FL and TX), they aren't that dissimilar. What the Biden advisor can't bring himself to recognize and admit, is that CA's and NY more stringent shut-downs were irrelevant to transmission prevention.

I think the article is a little misleading.  There is no conclusive data indicating that the vaccines prevent transmission.

...there is currently no conclusive evidence to claim the COVID-19 vaccine stops people spreading the virus that causes the disease – nor is there for the opposite. Early findings from Oxford/AstraZeneca revealed its vaccine could have some effect on transmitting the virus (here), while similar results have also been reported by Pfizer/BioNTech (here).

Scientists do not yet know whether COVID-19 vaccinations will reduce transmission because this was not tested in the trials (here, here). Instead, they found candidate vaccines were able to prevent symptomatic and severe effects of COVID-19 (here), meaning future research would need to take this further (here). For instance, it would need to look deeper into how the vaccine works in the body – whether it prevents an individual getting infected altogether, or whether it simply stops a person becoming sick. With the latter, this could mean the virus continues to replicate in the nose and throat, and is still able to spread...............

But there's a crucial mystery still left to unravel: Do these vaccines simply stop you from getting really sick, or can they actually stop transmission of the coronavirus itself?

Unfortunately there isn't anything approaching a clear-cut answer to that yet. The rapid production timeline for these immunizations means we need to wait and see all the data.

Similarly, there is zero evidence that recovered or vaccinated person re-exposed are ever infectious during the time their immune systems fight and defeat the newly introduced viruses. Think critically when claims like that are basically Panic Porn that might accidentally be partly and briefly correct. Chances are the random person you pass near at the store or at the gas station or etc. is a greater risk (possibly infinitely so) than a random recovered or vaccinated person you might encounter.
