Lockdowns Have Caused More Children To Drop Out Of School Than Americans Have Died Of COVID

The idea that bars should remain open yet schools remain closed runs counter to any sense of logic, not to mention good public policy.

By Christopher Jacobs
December 8, 2020

The past nine months have seen more than a quarter-million Americans die from the coronavirus. Each and every death represents a tragedy — a life cut short, an empty place at the family table this holiday season, children mourning their parents, even parents mourning their children.

But a separate and ongoing tragedy has also struck at countless more than another quarter-million Americans: Children who have disappeared from school following last spring’s COVID-19 closures. A survey conducted by CBS’s “60 Minutes” found that among 78 of the largest school districts in the country, at least 240,000 students remained unaccounted for when school resumed, in many cases virtually, this fall. This number doesn’t, of course, include the many other children schools have lost in other districts.

Each and every one of those cases also represents a tragedy. Indeed, it’s a slow-moving crisis. Every child who doesn’t return to school to complete his or her education represents dreams unfulfilled. It means diminished career prospects, lower earnings, an increased risk of trouble with law enforcement or substance misuse, more expense to society through the criminal justice and welfare systems, and on, and on, and on.

Just as these students have fallen through the proverbial cracks, however, policymakers do not seem to be doing nearly enough to solve the problem.

It would be nice to see actual percentages: now homeschooled; enrolled in private schools; actually dropped out. Unless the numbers are buried deep the article did not include them. IMO, a PS student transferred to a good private school or homeschooled by parents investing the work is all but certainly better off than in PS.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

I'd agree to that.

The first thought I had when I read the headline was... considering what is taught IN "the public schools" nowadays, perhaps these young'uns are better of NOT being in them...

Yet another instance that the lockdowns have caused more harm.

As for children being home-schooled that is a much better option; we'll see how long that's allowed under a Biden presidency.

Being a HS dropout My Heart breaks more for the old people stuck in Care Facilities unable to see their Families AND the current suicide rate of disillusioned, disenfranchised Americans.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

The USSC has already ruled that private schooling cannot be outlawed, Pierce Vs. Society of Sisters - almost a century ago, IIRC. The USSC ruled in Yoder Vs. Wisconsin that parents' rights in deciding how their children are to be educated are greater than the state's interests. There are also several court cases striking down several states' laws against homeschooling. If a Biden Administration tried to attack homeschooling it would not be a direct attack, and of course withholding Federal funds would not work since few (if any) homeschoolers receive Federal funds.

The "new" 15-member Supreme Court will REVERSE these prior rulings in 2023...

Interesting Twitter thread by Michael Senger (Attorney, author of China’s Global Lockdown Propaganda Campaign) on the subject of lockdowns:

Thread – LOCKDOWNS – WHAT WE'VE DONE

My work is sometimes criticized for not discussing the merits of lockdown—perhaps even exculpating western leaders by blaming the CCP. Others know better. This thread is for the victims of lockdown, the greatest crime of the 21st century.

Over 60% of business closures from lockdown are now permanent—over 97,000 businesses lost in the U.S.  That “leaders” across the world transformed into tyrants, believing they had a right to bankrupt their subjects, is the core evil of lockdown.

Nearly half of black-owned small businesses have been wiped out.

Unemployment in the U.S. reached as high as 14.7% and highways have jammed with thousands of vehicles awaiting their turn at food banks.

Nearly 5% of the population of the U.K. went hungry during the first three weeks of lockdown.

A survey found that 22% of Canadians were experiencing high anxiety levels, a four-fold increase from before the lockdowns, while the number reporting symptoms of depression doubled to 13%.

More than 40 U.S. states have reported increases in opioid-related mortality.

And, per CDC, despite mass PCR testing and disproportionate false positives, at least 100,947 excess deaths in 2020 were not even linked to COVID-19 AT ALL.  In other words, over 100,000 Americans were murdered this year by their OWN GOVERNMENT.

Though at little risk from the virus itself, young people bore an outsized share of the burden.  More than 70% of adults ages 18-23 said they experienced common symptoms of depression. CDC revealed that young adults aged 25-44 years saw the largest increase in “excess” deaths from previous years, a stunning 26.5% JUMP, despite accounting for FEWER THAN 3% of deaths from COVID-19.

In Ireland, reports of rape and child sex abuse nearly doubled.

Suicides jumped to unprecedented levels around the world.  “We've never seen numbers like this in such a short period of time,” said Walnut Creek’s Dr. Mike deBoisblanc. “I mean we've seen a year's worth of suicide attempts in the last four weeks.”

“September of 2020 has been the highest month ever that we've seen suicidal patients admitted to our medical center,” said Kia Carter, M.D., medical director of Psychiatry at Cook Children’s Hospital.

In Japan, government statistics show suicide claimed more lives in October than Covid-19 did over the entire year to date.

And, despite being at virtually no risk from COVID, as a result of lockdowns, children have suffered the most of all.  Nearly one in four children living under lockdowns are dealing with anxiety, with many at risk of lasting psychological distress. In recent surveys of over 6000 children and parents in the US, Germany, Finland, Spain and the UK by Save the Children, up to 65% of the children struggled with boredom and feelings of isolation.

Children’s health and intellectual development has regressed.  Some who were potty-trained before lockdowns have reverted to diapers, and others have forgotten basic numbers or how to use a knife and fork. American children over the age of ten have engaged in 50% less physical activity during lockdown. Achievement gaps have widened, and early literacy has declined.

And, most horrifyingly of all, a study from the United Kingdom found a 1,493% rise in the incidence of abusive head trauma among children over the course of the COVID-19 crisis.

These are not statistics.  They’re old friends, loved ones, and intelligent human beings with thoughts, feelings, and dreams, whose lives have been needlessly destroyed by our own governments’ policies. But while these statistics in developed nations may be horrifying, they pale in comparison to the suffering of untold millions in the developing world, cast into starvation and poverty as a result of our lockdowns.  ...

Interesting, but weird to me... Particular to familial and neighborly violence... Around here families are pretty much together all the time anyway, especially with those that home-school (quite a few) with no real incidents of abuse beyond the norm... In fact, I would suppose such incidents to be well below the norm.

Maybe it is the farm life and wide open spaces.

Life in the cities and suburbs is nothing like that in rural areas.
