U.S. Army’s robotic mules moves closer to fielding

The U.S. Army has announced that its new 8×8 unmanned all-terrain transport vehicle, or robotic mule, passed natural environment tests at Yuma Proving Ground providing the green light for the fielding.
According to a recent service news release, the Multi-Utility Tactical Transport (MUTT) has successfully passed a series of tests during Project Convergence 20, the Army Futures Command’s capstone exercise.
“We are testing integrating multiple payloads that will enable a Soldier to do their mission more effectively,†said Gerald Jung, mechanical engineer. “Dismounted Soldiers can only carry what’s on their back—now they have a ‘mule’ that can carry much heavier equipment, but that’s still small enough to not restrict their mobility in tight areas.â€
