Mounting Evidence Points to Covid Refugees from Mexico as a Major Factor in Border-State Spikes

    Evidence continues to mount that spikes in Covid cases in U.S. border states are due to successive waves of infected people fleeing Mexico’s dysfunctional and overwhelmed hospitals to get American medical care at least as much, if not more than, to the re-opening of those states’ economies.

    This matters because officials in border states are beginning to base policy decisions for partial lock-downs on grounds that lifting them is what caused the spikes.

But the OP article did state:

Earlier, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal all reported a crush of infected people from Mexico coming over the Arizona and California borders, although the publications say all appear to be American expatriates, dual citizenship holders, and Mexican legal permanent residents.

So the people who are overwhelming border area hospitals are not illegals. Nor were they infected due to the several states' partial re-openings.

This, and the geographic pattern of infection, suggests a very specific pattern:

- The first wave was triggered by travel from Europe, mostly via New York City. The U.S. was able to begin fending off that wave, but it was complicated by Latin America (with which it shares a land border) seeing a much bigger wave that has begun to overwhelm the American efforts so far—an issue that Europe has not yet had to face and may never have to face.

You may recall in 2009 that swine flu entered our country from Mexico. The wave attacking the south and west is likely coming from the same place.

So blame "lack of social distancing" all you want. Until the rest of the continent gets their infections in check, there is no hope we will ever do the same.

TX, FL, CA all have a large ILLEGAL (Mexican)  population and their cases have skyrocketed.  Although I thought for some reason that the southern border was closed off.
