Pfizer: Coronavirus vaccine could be ready by this fall for emergency use

To combat the coronavirus pandemic, Pfizer Inc. said it could have a vaccine ready for emergency use by the fall, according to a report.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla told The Wall Street Journal Tuesday that the company could further be ready for a broader rollout by the end of the year.

“This is a crisis right now, and a solution is desperately needed by all,” Bourla told the publication.

The company is continuing to do more testing to ensure the vaccine is safe, according to The Journal.

The next results are expected as early as next month..........

If we somehow manage to pull off the miraculous feat of a successful vaccine by the end of this calendar year... well... first of all, given disease transmission patterns and how certain Southern Hemisphere countries have pretty much contained the virus, we might not even get a second wave right away, but second, having that vaccine ready before any second wave arrives would pretty much quash the fearmongers.

The whole world is working on it so who knows?  Where there’s a will there may be a way..

Why is that? Truth always seems to work. Even when folks don't want to hear it.

There are THIRTY strains currently. even if that is linear (not exponential, which it actually is) another three months will buy you at least thirty more strains. That is at least SIXTY strains by fall. pick one, because that is all that this vaccine will work against.

Pretty much that's the way I see things.

Because it's right.

Quest has announced an antibody test.

$119 not yet sure  if insurance pays.

I think I had it, and would pay for the peace of mind of knowing.

In Calif. we have the Santa Clara County study, and LA County study by Stanford and USC respectively, which suggest many of us had it.

I realize that isn't a guaranty of immunity but is strong knowledge thereof.

That's not true.

First of all, the vaccine being developed is using only a portion of the virus that so far is common to all known strains. Second of all, that study that claimed 30 strains managed to find all 30 in only 11 people. It's a classic example of Chinese disinformation that's run rampant since this virus was unleashed.

Yes, it is true.
Fast morphing viruses are consistently the cause of spring sicknesses, and corona is one of them. The many variants of flu also included... The impossibility comes from their constant ability and tendency to morph quickly.

That is why there is no real and consistent cure for influenza and/or the common cold, and a handful of others that plague humanity year after year.

That is a salvation, after a fashion too... the tendency for fast morphing viruses is to morph consistently toward the more benign... Harder strains tend to kill themselves out by killing their hosts, and more benign strains tend over time to dominate, thus more benign morphing tends to move to the fore.

That may in fact have somewhat to do with the reason why the west coast is not getting it in the teeth like the east coast is.

But the rule of thumb that will continue to govern my thoughts in this is that if they were able to create a cure, the common cold would have long since been eradicated. Thus I will continue to doubt news which offers a silver bullet. 9 chances out of 10, it's vaporware.

Now, no doubt the advantage in $$ goes to those who can create the illusion of a cure, and I expect buckets of money waiting in the wings get shoveled in on every rumor. But reality, I would bet, is far different from that.

Makes no real difference to me - I won't be taking any vaccine anyway, no matter what.

So much varying and confusing info out there.  I have heard reports that there may 30 different strains of COVID-19, which if true means (1) At least 30 different variations of said vaccine is needed, and (2) This sucker mutates significantly, which means they are aiming at a moving target, and that 30 number is growing as time passes.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

That's right, I think. Whatever they are making now does not predict the variants that have not yet come to be... 30 distinct variants in less than 2 months. And that is exponential. No cure is going to happen. But I do expect it will become less lethal in the wild as time marches on.
