Days ago, the U.S. Army sent out an unusual plea to its retired officers and enlisted soldiers: If you served in one of eight high-demand medical specialties, it said, you may be able to "re-join the team" in order to help the service fight the coronavirus pandemic.

"We need to hear from you STAT!" the message from the Army's head of personnel, Lt. Gen. Thomas Seamands, read.

The Army's retirees took that seriously.

I am honestly surprised anyone thought they wouldn't answer the bugle call.

I have seen people with two hearing aids from being blown around by explosions,bad knees and backs from jumping out of airplanes with parachutes and helicopters WITHOUT chutes that were SUPPOSED to be close to the ground,and various and assorted bullet and shrapnel scars on their bodies,rant and raise hell over being pulled from an active "go team" and put in a staff job.

I am talking calling names and making physical threats mad.

It's like telling a race horse they can't run anymore.

It is NOT an easy adjustment to make,and almost all would jump at the chance to get "back in the game,doing what I know how to do best".
