Biden is going to be the candidate....done deal. And thank goodness, because...and I am diametrically opposed to the man on most issues, Cuomo has been nothing short of impressive these past few weeks (and yes, his brother is schmuck). The truth is, he HAS been presidential throughout this crisis...he and President Trump have been two critically important islands of sanity in this mess.
Cuomo has shown a genuine ability and willingness to put aside partisanship in a crisis...something that used to be more the norm in this country. He has praised President Trump and his work on the issue, openly stated that he and Trump have each other's back in fighting this virus...and for me that earns the man a lot of respect. He may be wrong on the issues, but he's got some courage and he is not afraid to be politically incorrect...slamming the youth of his city and the country for their partying at spring break and general unwillingness to carry out social distancing. He's called out other Dems for sniping at the President and in general been an island of common sense. His disgust for de Blasio also speaks well of the man!
Bottom line, Cuomo has been what a loyal opposition is supposed to be...a politics stops at the border, we're all Americans in a crisis, and a call 'em like you see 'em leader. I will never vote for him, and I'm VERY happy he's not the Dem candidate because he'd be tough to beat...but he has shown himself to be a solid American and that counts for a lot in my book. If people like Cuomo and Gabbard were to become the standard bearers of the left, it might be possible to return to a modicum of civility in our politics...which is critical to the long term health of the Republic.
