A League City man has been sentenced to 10 years probation and a $10,000 fine after a jury found him guilty of animal cruelty for a March 2019 incident in which he stabbed his family's dog in the face and neck while the dog was attempting to protect the man's wife during an altercation they were having, according to a release from the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney's Office.
Michael Christopher Tewell was found guilty on March 4 of cruelty to a non-livestock animal by causing serious bodily injury in a cruel manner, a third-degree felony.
Tewell's wife told police their family pet, a 50-pound mixed-breed dog named Diesel, was barking and growling at her husband in her defense while they were having an argument on March 11, 2019. Tewell responded by punching Diesel and then stabbing him several times in the face and neck.

Diesel the dog survived multiple stab wounds from one of his previous owners
during a domestic dispute in 2019. Nearly a year later, his attacker has been
found guilty and now the dog is looking for a new home.
It doesn't say why the wife can't keep Diesel after he put his life on the line defending her.
