Disgraced lawyer Michael Avenatti was convicted of all three charges related to his efforts to extort up to $25 million from athletic apparel giant Nike.

The verdict in Manhattan federal court came two years after Avenatti gained widespread notoriety for his representation of porn star Stormy Daniels in her legal disputes with President Donald Trump.

Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen paid Daniels hush money to keep her quiet about claims of an affair with the president on the eve of the 2016 election.

Disgraced lawyer Michael Avenatti was convicted Friday by a jury of all three charges related to his efforts to extort up to $25 million from athletic apparel giant Nike.

The verdict in U.S. District Court in Manhattan came two years after Avenatti gained widespread notoriety for his representation of porn star Stormy Daniels in her legal disputes with President Donald Trump.

Avenatti was accused in the Nike case of trying to shake down the company by threatening to expose alleged evidence of bribing amateur basketball players and their families unless the company paid up.

The bombastic attorney, who was ordered jailed last month for alleged violations of his release bond, faces upcoming trials this spring in two other federal criminal cases.

That cracked me up. There's not a sports fan alive who didn't already know about the gobs of money Nike and adidas have been paying "amateur" athletes for years.

Maybe CA's bar association will actually discipline Avenutti, like disbarring him for life plus 10 years.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Michael Avenatti convicted of trying to extort Nike
Fox News, Feb 14, 2020

Michael Avenatti, the lawyer who once represented adult film star Stormy Daniels in a lawsuit against President Trump, was found guilty of trying to extort sportswear giant Nike.

A Manhattan federal jury on Friday found Avenatti guilty on three counts: extortion, wire fraud and transmission of interstate communications with intent to extort. He faces up to 42 years in prison.

Avenatti, 48, who did not testify in his defense, pleaded not guilty to charges alleging that he tried to extort up to $25 million from Nike by threatening to expose corruption at the company unless he was allowed to conduct an investigation.

Prosecutors said he had more than $11 million in debts at the time.

Avenatti is a sleazebag, who gives decent, reputable attorneys a bad name.   I hope the judge gives him the maximum penalty.

Which could be, coincidentally, when he'll get out of the Greybar Hotel.

As lawyer, Avenatti makes Saul Goodman look like Abe Lincoln.

Michael Avenatti moved to different jail after hitting ‘breaking point’
By Michael Kaplan
February 22, 2020 | 4:36pm

On Feb. 14, disgraced lawyer Michael Avenatti was found guilty on all charges of trying to bilk $23.5 million from Nike, and now faces up to 42 years in prison. But there’s one thing for him to be happy about: He’s finally been moved out of the downtown Manhattan jail cell he despises.  ...

In January, ahead of his trial, he was transferred from a California facility to the notorious 10 South — a jail deep inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in TriBeCa that Avenatti’s Miami-based attorney Scott Srebnick described to The Post as “sheer dehumanization.”  ...

Avenatti was transferred to 5 South, a general population facility, on Thursday, after one of his defense attorneys, Danya Perry, wrote an appeal to MCC — saying Avenatti had reached a “breaking point.”

“[Avenatti] was in a cell where everything he does is watched. He showered in view of cameras. He couldn’t control the lights [which reportedly never turn off],” Srebnick added of his client’s old 10 South cell. “There was no privacy.”   ...
Well, duh. There is very little privacy in most jails.  *****rollingeyes*****

I'm trying to imagine an inmate who can say to a guard, "Oh, boy! I say, boy! Would you be a dear and dim the lights just a smidge, I'm having trouble sleeping."

@mountaineer

There's an episode of the old series, Frasier, where one of the characters put her shoes outside her cell door to be polished and they were stolen.    I guess Avenatti thought prison would be like a stay at the Waldorf.   *****rollingeyes*****

An anti-Trump former government contractor who was convicted of leaking National Security Agency documents is now asking the president to let her out of prison.

Reality Winner, 28, filed a petition for clemency with the Department of Justice on Monday, saying she has been diagnosed with depression, anxiety and bulimia, and is enduring “substantial suffering” for which she needs therapy.

Winner pleaded guilty in 2018 to felony transmission of national defense information and was sentenced to five years and three months in prison with three years of supervised release. The sentence was the longest ever at the time for a federal crime involving leaks to the media. ...

Winner, a native of Kingsville, Texas, served as an Air Force translator before she went to work for a government contractor doing work for the NSA in Augusta, Georgia. She was accused of printing a top-secret report, stuffing it in her pantyhose and leaving the building. ...
