Medical marijuana resolution to come before Aldermen Tuesday

The New Bern Board of Aldermen will consider a resolution in support of legalizing medical marijuana in North Carolina. The resolution is listed as the tenth item on the Board’s Feb. 11 meeting.

On Dec. 10, 2019, New Bern resident Max Oglesby gave Board members a 10 minute presentation on what he sees as the overwhelmingly positive effects of the drug for patients suffering from a variety of medical conditions. Oglesby is an Army veteran and the owner of Above the Roots, a CBD and smokable hemp business with locations in New Bern and Havelock. Along with a number of other citizens, he appeared before the Board on two separate occasions to ask Aldermen to consider a resolution asking that the question of whether or not to legalize medical marijuana be presented to local municipalities.

“We live in an ironic time that a plant that has been labeled criminal and dangerous is providing numerous health benefits to our society... Studies have proven that marijuana is an all-natural alternative to slow certain cancers from spreading, control epileptic seizures, ease anxiety and many more illnesses,” Oglesby told the Board.
