The gerrymandering wars are heading South.

A number of Southern states, including Texas, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, are prime targets for partisan gerrymandering as the congressional redistricting process gets underway after next year's statehouse elections, experts said.

"Many of the states that had the really aggressive gerrymanders the last time — Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin — the processes are much fairer there" now, Michael Li, a redistricting expert at the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University said, referring to what took place after the 2010 census. "The real worry is these fast-growing states in the South."

America's decennial congressional redistricting process — when roughly even-sized House districts are drawn, usually by state politicians — has become one of the most important battles in politics, as the parties seek to gain advantage by drawing sometimes crazy looking maps.

Activists say these partisan maneuvers undermine democracy and that politicians shouldn't be choosing their voters; politicians who gerrymander like to say that by winning elections, they've earned the right to draw the districts as they see fit.

I thought it was decided years ago, via SCOTUS decision, that illegal aliens count for the Census.  This is why Dems love illegals whether they vote or not:  It's because body counts create Congressional Districts.

I think that may be the case.

But the fight will be the intense lawsuits DEMANDING that all illegals be counted.  Any blue state that loses seats due to the census will certainly claim the illegal count was undercounted.

What a distortion of our country's rightful census and representation, to count illegals.

What I do not understand is that since they are not residents by definition, how can any state claim them?  states have different periods of domicile to classify as a resident.

If they must be counted, keep them separate from that.
Every one of them who is counted for the purpose of establishing congressional districts lessens the representation of the citizens of this Country, effectively making greater representation for the citizens in districts formed using the count including larger numbers of illegals than there is for the citizens in districts with few illegals.
Districting should be done on the basis of Citizens in residence, not those who are here illegally.
