Yep. And, in all fairness, it wasn't the pols who were out in the neighborhoods throwing trash out.
You're right about that. But this whizzing match between politicians just shows that politicians and government in general do nothing to solve a problem. It's up to ordinary citizens like Mr. Presler to take action.
And yes, it would help if the people who live in these hellholes did their part to take care of their own neighborhoods.
I grew up a few streets away from public housing. This was back in the 1950s to early-mid 1960s. I went to school with a number of the kids who lived there. So naturally, we would go to each other's homes to play and hang out. Back then, I had no qualms about going to that project to see my friends. And the people who lived there, though poor, took care of their units. I would see people sweeping, picking up trash, washing windows and so on all the time. Crime was relatively unheard of.
A few years ago, government tore out the old housing and built brand new single family, duplexes and triplexes. Already, there are doors hanging off the hinges, windows broken and trash everywhere. And that's on top of the constant crime. Today I wouldn't want to walk through that project even during the daytime, let alone at night.
