Richard Gonzales at NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The president of Mexico's National Migration Institute, the government agency that controls and supervises migration, resigned Friday.

In a brief statement, the institute announced that Tonatiuh Guillén Lopez presented his resignation to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Guillén Lopez, who thanked the Mexican president for the opportunity to serve the country, had been commissioner of the migration agency since December.

Not very long at his job.  My guess is the new and improved migration policies with the U.S. are more than he wants to handle.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Guess he couldn't balance doing his job (on one hand) and taking bribes from the cartels (on the other)...

Let's see now ... Mexico's migration chief resigns ... and the newly appointed immigration czar for the U.S. hasn't accepted the position.  Gee, nothing like getting off to a great start! /s

I think that's a job requirement.
