As Venezuela’s Guaidó faces threat of arrest, Ron DeSantis says it would be ‘big, big mistake’
Emily Mahoney
3-4 minutes

TALLAHASSEE — On Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis, First Lady Casey DeSantis, Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez and Fabiana Rosales, wife of Venezuela’s interim President Juan Guaidó, met in the Governor’s Mansion to hold a press conference — only to be delayed by an emerging safety “situation” in Venezuela.

The 20-minute delay only underscored the ever-changing nature of the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, a country where Rosales said death and hunger have become the norm. She did not expand on what Tuesday's "situation" entailed, but the governor's office confirmed it was related to Guaidó's safety.

"In Venezuela today there isn't electricity, there isn't food, there isn't medicine. And our children are dying every second," she said in Spanish. Throughout the event, she bit her lip and appeared nervous. "Today, Venezuelans live in danger. Today, the life of the President of Venezuela Juan Guaidó is in danger."

Maybe next time -- if there is a next time -- Venezuelans will think twice before electing a leftist strongman.

Of course, even if they do think twice, they'll end up doing it again sooner or later anyway.  They'll convince themselves that "this one is different", and put one right back in power.  Too much of Latin America is obsessed with personality-based politics, the proverbial "Man (or woman) on Horseback" rather than on limited government.  As a result their governments tend to be governments of men, not laws.

One would have to study Venezuela's elections.  I think it is uncertain whether Maduro won that last election they had down there.

Caracas has been the murder capitol of the world, currently it is 2nd. Something is happening down there.  So, basically, Latin America by American standards, is a troubled place though, a number of Americans retire to enclaves in Mexico, in Colombia (Medellin) and other places.

The sad thing, is that the wolf is at the door in the US. Maybe this is over-the-top but a few of our states have veered severely left and I fear sometimes, if it could take over the whole nation.
