McConnell: Senate will pass resolution blocking Trump's emergency declaration
By Jordain Carney - 03/04/19 11:19 AM EST

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday said that he expects a resolution blocking President Trump's emergency declaration to pass the Senate, but he does not believe lawmakers will be able to override a veto.

"I think what is clear in the Senate is that there will be enough votes to pass the resolution of disapproval, which will then be vetoed by the president and then in all likelihood the veto will be upheld in the House," McConnell said while speaking to reporters in Kentucky.

The Senate will vote on the resolution before lawmakers leave town on March 15 for a week-long recess.

The resolution blocking Trump's emergency declaration appeared to clinch the 51 votes needed to pass the Senate when Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) announced over the weekend that he would vote for it.

He can't help it. He's only the majority leader.

So... go ahead and do it.

Then, Mr. Trump will veto it.

You won't be able to override the veto.

Game over, turtle!

How stupid does one have to be to believe McConnell wants this vote?  Trump-Messiah stupid.  This is not a good situation for President Trump unless he can galvanize the anti-McConnell GOP to numbers that far exceed his base numbers.

Total CF, and the result was preordained months ago to maximize affect.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

I agree.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

What was McConnell supposed to do?  Throw a hissy and refuse to bring the resolution to the floor?

Why on Earth would he do that when it’s a foregone conclusion that it will be vetoed, and the veto is unlikely to be overridden?

IMO, this is just making lemonade from lemons.

As a non-establishment POTUS, President Trump is actually giving cover to the likes of McConnell & Friends.

No different than having surplus votes on your pet issue so that members in states up for reelection can vote 'No'.

It's hard to believe any lucid person over the age of 60 could be against a wall and recognize an "emergency".

Their deeds make it one by definition.

McConnell said he would support the Emergency Declaration.  He knew the legalities before he made promises to Trump.  He knew that they would vote against Trump and the border.  But Trump should have known that the bill wasn't fit to sign.  He shouldn't have signed it.  It should have been Emergency Declaration first.  veto the bill that wasn't fit to sign.  He was led down the path of President against the entire government.  If you sign a bill saying you will except 1.3 billions.  Sign off that local governments can opt out of the wall you have neutered the purpose of a wall.

What Trump is doing now is holding on to a fraction of a promise to America.  He gave the rest away.
