And his comment that blacks were uneducated and therefore not qualified to lead was and still is reasonable. Ignorance can be fixed. Implied in his comment is the idea that an educated black can certainly lead... So where is the problem with that?

This is just another faux outrage skirmish in the left's attempt to remove our freedom of speech.  It started with political correctness.  That has now grown and morphed into a scenario where you literally must walk on eggshells and refrain from saying what you think, lest ye "offend" a leftie moron somewhere.  It will get worse...

You start reading very many ~50 year old interviews and I suspect you will find a lot that does not line up with today's culture.

Considering the educational and other opportunities which have opened up for blacks since that interview, and the number of blacks who have worked their way up the political or corporate ladder by becoming qualified, for the most part he was right. Few were qualified for national office. Those who were rushed into office based on skin color generally demonstrated that.

I happen also to think that despite the saturation of media with homosexual themes since then, it is still just as sick as it was then, as it was when Lot fled Sodom. If it was supposed to be a matter of a few people doing in their bedroom what they thought was right for them, why is it all over my TV?

Consider I'd probably be banned in the Boston of today, but for 1971, John Wayne was correct.

What, seven years after the civil rights act, there were suddenly massive numbers of qualified top of the ticket candidates out there? No way, it takes time to be qualified to be upper management. John Wayne was right.

There is. From branding the man who led the Continental Army and turned down being King just a slaveowning white farmer, to smearing every person or worthwhile milestone in our history, if they can't claim they were homos, they attack them.  Conveniently the attacks are against people who lived in a different time and a different America and are dead and can't speak for themselves.

But when you have so little to brag about yourself, you tear the other person down to look better.

The trolls of manufactured outrage (the twits of twitter)  are calling for the renaming of John Wayne Airport after a 1971 "Playboy" interview resurfaced this week.

A Los Angeles Times opinion piece from earlier this week highlighted opinions the former movie star voiced in the interview on black people, gay people and Native Americans.

Wayne, who was 63 at the time of the interview, said he believed in "white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility."

He also mentioned "tests" which proved black people did not have "requisite background" to attend college.

When asked which films he called "perverted," Wayne listed 1969’s “Easy Rider” and “Midnight Cowboy,” before using anti-gay slurs to discuss the films.

Wayne said that Native Americans were "were selfishly trying to keep" the U.S. "for themselves."

“Orange County today is such an economically and ethnically diverse community that it’s hard to justify asking any member of that community to board planes at an airport named after an outspoken racist and homophobe, with his strutting statue occupying a central niche in front of the concourse,” columnist Michael Hiltzik wrote for the LA Times.

I'm sorry,I just can't get myself worked up over what a private citizen who never held elective office  and has been dead for a couple of decades said in a magazine interview 40 years ago.
