Ukrainian Activist Doused With Acid Dies

KYIV -- Kateryna Handzyuk, a Ukrainian civic activist and adviser to the mayor of the Black Sea port city of Kherson, has died from wounds she suffered from an acid attack, authorities confirmed on November 4.
The 33-year-old Handzyuk, who was known for her scathing criticism of police corruption, was doused with sulfuric acid outside of her Kherson home on July 31 by an unknown attacker.
Her death comes amid a wave of attacks against Ukraine’s civic activists, with rights campaigners claiming law-enforcement agencies have failed to thoroughly investigate the cases and may even be complicit in some of the attacks.

I wonder if this was an acid-attack where the aim was not to kill which it seems most acid attacks have the motive to disfigure. Anyway, I hope they catch the culprit(s) and throw the book at them.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko confirmed the death of Acting Head of the Executive Committee of Kherson City Council, Adviser of Kherson’s Mayor and public activist Kateryna Handziuk and required of the law enforcement bodies to punish her murderers. He claimed this at the opening ceremony of Ukrainian community Ukrainian family in Antalya.
‘I was told that activist Kateryna Handziuk... unfortunately, she died in a hospital... I want to address the law enforcement bodies so that they do everything possible to find the murderers, to punish them and put them on the defendants’ bench,’ he claimed.
He added that all-Ukrainian society should join hands and help the law enforcement bodies to get evil punished.
