I was curious, because I have had need to title two cars in Florida recently, what Tennessee law is for registering a car in the state. If you buy a new or used car you have to pay state sales tax. But this guy wasn't in that situation as far as I can tell. He had a current car that would have been transferred from Georgia to Tennessee, so there would not be any sales tax to pay. He would have to get an emissions test - $9. He would need a new private passenger license plate and title - $95. As best I can tell a new driver's license is $55 max and is good for 8 years.
Guess this couple is a good candidate for the Millenial Adulting Classes.
When I moved to VA, I bought a new truck and paid VA state sales tax on it. A few years later, when I moved to FL, and I had to pay FL state sales tax on the current value of that truck the first time I registered it. Are they still doing that?
BTW, if that sounds bad, while I was in VA they charged you sales tax (or close to it, IIRC it was 5%) on the value of your vehicle. Every year. And it was due in October. Great idea, pay a fat tax a few weeks before you vote.
