Can a Red Wave Actually Happen?
By Larry Alton

The midterms are right around the corner and political pundits everywhere are sounding off about the most likely outcomes. And despite the feeling that Democrats are about to regain majorities, there’s plenty of reason to believe that Republicans can maintain their stronghold.

Here’s What the Democrats Need to Do

It’s hard to believe that we’re already nearing the halfway point of President Donald Trump’s first term in the White House. But November 6 is quickly approaching, which means it’s once again election season.

While midterm elections rarely get the hype and turnout that presidential elections do, they’re arguably just as important -- this year especially. If the Republicans can keep control, President Trump will be able to keep up the momentum he’s gradually built over the last 18-plus months. But if the Democrats regain majorities in either the House or the Senate, the tides would begin to change.

In the Senate, the Republicans currently hold a 51 to 49 lead. There are 35 seats up for grabs this year, of which 26 are held by Democrats. Considering that they need to gain two seats in order to take control, the Democrats face an uphill battle. They’ll essentially need a clean sweep -- plus two additional seats.

Of course.

People's first instincts are to vote for what benefits them.

With the present roaring economy and foreign enemies in retreat, many will view who is in office now as the way to continue the prosperity.

Since Dem voters are decimating in primaries long-term politicians in power in favor of radical leftists, and the fact that Dems are facing a lot more challenges to holding Senate seats, it could easily go this way.

There is more evidence of a red wave over a blue.

Mid-terms elections are often about turnout.  Who will be more motivated:  the Resistance or those pleased with President Trump's performance?  Those energized locally for the Dems or the Reps?  Based on the elections since Inauguration Day 2017 (and history of other President's party in their first mid-term elections), I'd say a blue wave is more likely than a red wave.

I think by the time November rolls around the Dems are going to piss off the GOP base so much they'll be highly motivated to vote.

BTW, absentees in Iowa start in 3 weeks, that will give some idea of what kind of waves are happening where?

I saw a poll were people preferred a Congress that would keep tabs on Donald Trump. If that polll is accurate, then it won’t be good news for the Republicans this fall. This is what happened to Obama in 2010 and 2014

However, the long-term outlook for the GOP could improve if the Democrats continue abandoning middle of the road centrist Democrats for Chavista style Democrats
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

That would be GREAT news for the GOP.  Then they could stop even bothering to be conservative every few years and just go ahead and slide farther to the left right out in the open.
