One of my mall walking buddies nearly died from last year's flu. A generally healthy guy for his age, he blew off the doctor when told he should get the vaccine. After days in the hospital, many of which hooked up to a respirator, my buddy is getting the shot this year.
Even though the vaccine is usually not all that effective, it does provide some protection. We old folks especially need to get the shot.
