Blue light is everywhere. It’s emitted by computers, televisions and smartphones.

It’s also the cause, in some cases, for accelerated blindness and eye disease, according to a new study. Constantly looking at digital devices kills cells in the eye’s retina, and can lead to macular degeneration, an incurable eye disease that usually begins when people are in their 50s or 60s, a recent University of Toledo study found.

Blue light can cause a “poisonous” chemical reaction in the eye’s photoreceptor cells and, when those cells die, they’re gone forever. The good news: There’s a way to prevent the cells from dying.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

What was said about Vitamin E seems to be...iffy. Elsewhere I see that it either doesn't help or that it helps only in combination with Vitamin c or maybe additional vitamins.

The blue-light filtering glasses they mentioned in the article are fabulous.  I got a pair about a year ago when I developed a chronic eye twitch, and the twitching went away almost immediately and hasn't been back.

We had a Houston area guy known for wearing those.

I formerly used and liked f.lux, which dims the blue on the computer monitor at night.  But the recent versions are far too aggressive and my eyes and head hurt when I use it...so I end up just disabling it each night.   There are settings to customize it, but I just haven't take the time to mess with it.

On my Android phone, I sometimes use Twilight.

Thanks.

Are those glasses any different than ordinary blue-blocking sunglasses?

The lenses aren't tinted - they're just clear with a coating of whatever it is that blocks out the blue light.  Well, mine are actually +1.50 magnification, too, but you can choose whatever strength you need for reading (or none at all).

Blue light isn't invisible.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
