You get now, from one of the nation's top scientific bodies, some guideposts in the controversy over whether fat in the diet causes heart attacks:

FATS AND CORONARIES. A committee of the National Research Council has taken a look at the mass of medical evidence on the subject and issued an official report. As of now, the report concludes, the question of how much and what kind of fat people should eat remains unanswered. A shift in eating habits toward less "animal" fats and more "vegetable" fats in hope of minimizing risk of heart attacks isn't currently warranted, the report adds.
