The intelligence assessment, which has not previously been reported, seems to counter the sentiments expressed by President Donald Trump, who tweeted after his historic June 12 summit with Kim that "there was no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea."

Analysts at the CIA and other intelligence agencies don't see it that way, according to more than a dozen American officials who are familiar with their assessments and spoke on the condition of anonymity. They see a regime positioning itself to extract every concession it can from the Trump administration — while clinging to nuclear weapons it believes are essential to survival.

Some of us said as much, but you know... Trump is beyond us mere pithy mortals in the field of negotiating deals, great deals, the best deals, for the American people.

Don't worry, things are progressing, we haven't seen any of his predecessors succeed on this. He's still doing better so far.

Similar stories appeared in the world news forum.

Remember, if things were going to smoothly, people would accuse the Administration of having the wool pulled over their eyes.

Quite a few stories on this really, Japan is continuing to obtain missile defense systems, some parts of the peace process with NK do appear to still be continuing despite this.

Also, developments on their nuke plants could be harmless as well, such as, I don't know the science exactly, but to make sure they stay cool, don't run hot.

There are enough stories, really should put it in the sticky "North Korean Crisis Thread" that the fine owners and administration put up for us mere mortals in the world news section, the problem is, I think some miss those stories.

But six months ago, whenever it was, North Korea was firing off missiles helter skelter, threatening Guam, Japan, Hawaii errantly went on a missile alert. This stuff is not happening now.  We still must stay the course.

    You Trumpers just don't see it.  Many of us here have already seen some of yall take more than one victory lap around the new and improved world peace for the greatness achieved by the Singapore Summit, talks of Nobel even, 'Mission Accomplished' all that $hit and with each day more is leaking out that this achieved nothing but a photo op and suspending joint military exercises, so far.

I believe you may be mistaken @corbe   The only praise from most people you kindly refer to as 'Trumpers' has been for Trump making an effort to meet with NKorea and attempt to reach an accord.  I think most of us have had a wait and see attitude from the start and nobody believes Kim is trustworthy.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained but you NTers deride Trump for making an effort.

It almost seems like you want Trump to fail, even at the cost of Kim increasing nuclear weapons.

Don't worry, we know what is going on at the so-called secret sites and NK will pay if they are not keeping their promises.

by the way, I would be disappointed if Trump accepted a Nobel Prize... that Prize has been tainted by several completely unworthy recipients.

It was pointed out by several here that N.K. was just playing for time with their nuke testing mountain needing a repair job (or replace completely).
