Steve King: House GOP 'considering' removing Ryan

Quote
Rep. Steve King (Iowa) says his fellow House Republicans "are considering" removing Speaker Paul Ryan, who has announced he is retiring after this Congress.

“It’s kind of odd that he has as much power as he has,” King said in an interview with Breitbart News Tonight released Friday.

“But I do predict, and it is happening, that that power is diminishing. I also have got information that there are — I’ll say ‘members’ — I say that plurally, with knowledge, that are considering introducing a motion to vacate the chair,” King continued. “If they do that, that will throw this place into a tizzy and force the kind of election for a Speaker that may bring out someone who is a lot stronger on this.”

Speculation has been growing among rank-and-file Republicans that Ryan won't be able to hold on to his gavel for the rest of the year, though few are calling on him to resign early.

This is why I think republicans are too stupid to be given power.  They have no idea what to do with it.

I've always liked Rep King, but as for Ryan having so much power?  He's Speaker and I would expect as much. He accepted the position with hesitation, but 'they' need to fire him without hesitation.  It was stupid to keep him in the position in the first place; he didn't prove his worth before the election and certainly hasn't proven his worth since then.  He's been a detriment to the House and to the party.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I believe firing the speaker 5 months before midterms is stupid.  If the GOP retains the House, the Speaker will be replaced by someone even less effective and more despised by his own party.  It's a systemic reflex action of the GOP.  It can't be helped.  The difference between a true patriot, and a traitorous RINO is one re-election.

I'm convinced that a lot of people in the GOP would prefer to stay in a minority. Better to scream and shout like a two year old on the sidelines.

I'm convinced that government isn't the only place people pretend to be one thing while actually being something else entirely.   Several of them posting here in fact.

Newt was a great speaker until he wasn't.   Power tends to do that to people.

He clearly has an agenda which I am sure is working against securing the border.  If you make securing the border about tribalism.  In a speech to Catholic breakfast Ryan urges Catholics to come together to address tribalism and identity politics in the US.

https://www.speaker.gov/press-release/full-text-speaker-ryan-s-address-national-catholic-prayer-breakfast

His concern over separating parents from children suggests that he bases his decision not on the law but on compassion.  His speech by the way is very good.  God wants us to be a people of compassion and faith.  What many politicians don't do is highlight the crime that is happening at the border.  Ignoring human trafficking, rape, and the dangers this business creates for those who take their chances to cross.

Trump was right during his campaign that crime is crossing the border.  Are we to set aside all of this with a mere image of a woman and a child?  The Catholic church is an enabler of illegal immigration.

I am not going to say that my argument is purely about the evils that people crossing the border face.  Everyone here knows that I don't believe Americans should shoulder the burden of illegal immigrants.  We can't period.  Its expensive.  So the problem is at least two fold.  It is that the border is dangerous to Americans and immigrants,  and we can't shoulder the cost of people escaping their own countries.  We can't merely allow people to continue to enter because there is gang violence in their own countries.  Because the Cartel is dangerous in Mexico.  We need to address the problems in their own countries not encourage everyone to come here.

I disagree.  If the Party is perceived as failing to follow through on the promises they made to get elected, then this is the perfect time to show a change in attitude.  It's also a time more likely to produce a Jeffords or a Meadows.  After they pull off a "save" of the house is when they are likely to revert to norm and pick a McCarthy.

Unless they have a replacement ready that will win a speaker vote and can get Ryan to step aside early, King is dreaming.

I suspect King is dreaming.

Agreed.
Why is this lame-duck loser still permitted to sabotage America?
Get Ryan OUTTA THERE.
Stop the damage!
