State House approves college aid for DACA students

HARTFORD — In a historic vote, the House on Wednesday joined the state Senate in passing landmark legislation that allows undocumented immigrants to get state financial aid at Connecticut’s colleges and universities.
“The Dreamers are some of the finest students,†said state Rep. Gregg Haddad, D-Mansfield, using a popular term to describe young undocumented immigrants.
“They camped out in the Capitol,†Haddad said, referring to a four-year lobbying effort. “In their hearts and minds they are Americans.â€
