Although many Americans who voted for Donald Trump hoped he would dramatically curtail the U.S. refugee resettlement program, refugees continued to steadily stream into the country during the first year of his presidency. Through the first 10 months of fiscal year 2017, which began Oct. 1, 2016, the United States resettled 50,479 refugees, already surpassing the 50,000-person cap Trump had proposed.

This is a list of the 15 states that resettled the most refugees between Oct. 1, 2016, and July 31, 2017. All data come from the Office of Admissions in the Refugee Processing Center, part of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
