Police seized the firearms and parts from Connor and Bruce Chargois after a threatening social media post.
Saugerties police say they may have prevented a school shooting after finding a father and son with a number of illegal guns and homemade weapons.
A student made an anonymous tip on Feb. 21 after seeing several disturbing social media posts that referenced the Columbine. Colo., school shooting and made vague threats, police said.
“I envy Eric and Dylan. It must’ve been so f…ing fun. They had the right f…ing idea,†one of the posts read, according to police.
“Had it not been for the initial reporting of this event by individuals whom had seen the original post, who knows what the end result could’ve been," said Police Chief Joseph Sinagra.
Police, working with the State Police Intelligence Center in Albany determined that the posts came from Connor Chargois, 18, a senior at Saugerties High School, according to a news release.
In a State Police interview, Chargois admitted he made the social media posts but denied that he had any guns. Chargois’ father, Bruce Chargois, 58, also said that there were no guns in the home.
But police said immediately after the interview Bruce Chargois went home and removed five guns from his home, including a
fully automatic 9mm Uzi and an AR-15 rifle. Police conducted a follow-up interview on Feb. 27 and Chargois admitted he moved the guns to Greco Brothers Amusement Co.
