Tom Hanks Wouldn't Screen 'The Post' at the White House, Decries Attacks on First Amendment

6:00 AM PST 12/20/2017 by Stephen Galloway

"We have to decide when we take to the ramparts," the Oscar-winner tells THR, noting that he would not attend a screening of his new film at the White House if invited.

Tom Hanks plays famed newspaper editor Ben Bradlee in Steven Spielberg's upcoming drama The Post. Here, the two-time Oscar winner discusses the man he plays (and also knew); the issues the film raises; and why he would refuse to go to the White House for a screening of his movie.

So according to Mr Hanks and fellow leftists up until Trump (and maybe a few hiccups during Reagan and Bush presidencies) the government has been the perfect angel since Nixon was president.

That is just amazing.

Initially, Nixon was ambivalent about the publication, because it was McNamara/Johnson policy.  However, Kissinger and other advisors told him it would set bad precedent to have national security documents leaked in such a manner.  It's a complete joke the issue was ever made about Nixon.

Odd how they were decidedly less interested in a similar situation with James Risen of the NYT and CIA analyst Jeffery Sterling being prosecuted under Obama just a few years ago.

I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

So, he's hasn't been invited but he's declining anyway?
