DHS Wants Tech to Scan Your Face as You Drive to Mexico
« on: November 04, 2017, 08:12:31 am »
The Homeland Security Department wants technology that can passively scan the faces of foreign nationals crossing the U.S. border by car, ensuring that the individuals who enter the country are the same ones who leave it.

DHS’ Silicon Valley outpost is hosting an industry day Nov. 14 to solicit solutions that would let Customs and Border Protection scan people’s faces, even if they’re wearing sunglasses, hats or are looking away from the camera, without requiring them to slow down or exit the car.

In order to drive to Mexico, Canada or on cruise, you need a special card that is issued by the State Department Passport Card. Its called the US Passport Card. You need to go through a background check first. If you want to avoid the DHS line at the airport, DHS has a photo of you and avoid the line. First you need to apply, go through a background check and fingerprints. The line avoidance process at the airport is good for five years.

It costs $55 dollars, a current photo ID,and the application is at the United States Post Office. They will do a background check.
