World Series Game Four---Live Thread
« on: October 28, 2017, 08:28:23 pm »
The Dodgers waste a leadoff single and Chris Taylor thrown out trying to steal to end it.
No score, middle of the first . . .

Charlie Morton, starting pitcher, Astros vs. Alex Wood, starting pitcher, Dodgers.

George Springer loses a review on a pitch he said hit him; tv replay showed it might have,
but the Dodgers caught a break on the review and the Astros go in order. No score after one . . .

This time the Astros caught a break---Yasiel Puig chopped one off his foot and ran toward first
instead of staying in the box for the umps to make a ruling (they can't review such a play but
they can rule on the ground rule), got thrown out at first instead of a foul ball. If Puig stayed
in the batter's box, the umps would have made a ruling. So three up three down for the Dodgers
as a result. No score, middle two . . .

A leadoff walk turns into Yuli Gurriel dialing Area Code 5-4-3, then Josh Reddick grounds out
for the side. No score after two . . .

Three up, three down for the Dodgers including a nasty fastball at the knees
for a called third strike on Kike Hernandez. No score, middle three . . .

A one-out walk is all the Astros get in the bottom of the third. No score after three . . .

Who threw out the first pitch? Did they have a eagle fly again after the National Anthem?

@EasyAce
I don't know about the eagle but I believe George W. Bush threw out the first pitch. I came to the game
after the first pitch, so you'd have to double check.

Three up, three down for the Astros, and only one base hit all game long by Chris Taylor in the
top of the first.

No score, after four . . .

Three up, three down for the Dodgers, seven punchouts for Morton,
no score, middle five . . .

This, too, is Casey Stengel's kind of game, these two pitchers "give 'em a little o'this
and a little o'that and swindle 'em!"

I'll just use my game notes for this one:

Austin Barnes---strike one to him; he's hit by the pitch, right on the wrist. First Dodger baserunner
since the first inning. Joc Pederson---looks at a strike; throws to first, Barnes dives back in; fouls
one off; fouls another one off; line drive to left center, Gonzalez in the alley has it, one away. Enrique
Hernandez---ball one to him; ball two to him; ball three to him; looks at a strike; strike two called,
on the corner; throw to first, Barnes driven back to the pad; he fouls one off; Brandon Morrow begins
to warm up for the Dodgers; Hernandez whacks a liner up the pipe, base hit, and Barnes in motion
makes it to third, the Dodgers have the game's second hit and it's first and third with one out. First
time either team has had a man in scoring position all night. Chris Taylor---ball one; Will Harris
warming up for the Astros; called strike on the inside corner; ball two misses low and away; ground
ball to third, Bregman coming home, they get Barnes at the plate after he stopped and thought about
going back to third, the Dodgers now have first and second but two outs. Corey Seager---first pitch
swinging, he lines out to left, the Astros dodge a bullet and then some. No score, middle six.

George Springer on 3-1 with two out hits one deep to left, way back, going, going, it is gonnnnnnnnnnnnnne, goodbye!
Into the Crawford Boxes and the Astros get a very hard-fought-for 1-0 lead, the first hit of the night surrendered by
Alex Wood and the last pitch he'll throw tonight. Brandon Morrow coming in for the Dodgers . . .

A one out double in the top of the seventh and that's all for Charlie Morton, but what a game he
pitched, gets a well-deserved standing O as he comes out and Will Harris comes in for the
Astros . . .

tie game! Dodgers still hitting with two out in the top of the seventh . . .

They might have roasted Dave Roberts if he didn't lift Alex Wood after the Springer bomb and
for letting Wood begin a third turn around the order, but that would have been as wrong as
roasting A.J. Hinch for letting Charlie Morton have likewise. The real story---until Springer
and until Bellinger and Forsythe, neither team musted up any real offense, that's how good
Morton and Wood were tonight.

Ken Giles pitching for the Astros gives up a base hit and a walk with nobody out in the top
of the ninth . . . then Cody Bellinger whacks one to left center, in comes Corey Seager,
Justin Turner to third, Bellinger slides into second safe, the Dodgers take a 2-1 lead . . .
still hitting with nobody out and Joe Musgrove coming in to pitch for the Astros . . .

Who threw out the first pitch? Did they have a eagle fly again after the National Anthem?

@EasyAce
@flowers
I was wrong. I'd heard it was supposed to be George W. Bush throwing out the first pitch,
but a girl from Las Vegas with a prosthetic hand (born with three fingers missing) did it
instead. Justin Verlander gave her a pair of cleats saying "Vegas Strong" on them.

Chris Devinski and Ken Giles!  The goperball kings
Devenski didn't surrender anything; he retired the side in order in the eighth, even if he needed
a little help from his friend Altuve to just barely nip Chris Taylor at first for the side. Devenski
actually gave the Astros something that seems unheard of from their bullpen bulls---a 1-2-3
inning. That'll be big for them in Game Five.

And, believe it or not, Giles didn't surrender a home run, either. He merely surrendered the
tiebreaking run and the third run, on an RBI double and a sacrifice fly.

Joe Musgrove had the honour of the gopher---he served up the pitch Joc Pederson clobbered
for the three-run bomb.

Ken Giles is supposed to be the guy that comes in and locks things down! He didn't! And hasn't!

And yeah, Joe Musgrove is quite fond of throwing gophers as well! Usually and the most inoportune times!
