Trump to donate $1 million for Harvey relief efforts
By Jonathan Easley - 08/31/17 03:49 PM EDT

President Trump plans to donate $1 million for victims of the historic floods and rains that have devastated the Gulf region, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday.

Trump has not finalized what group the money will go to, and the White House said it would solicit ideas from the press corps, taking a dig at those who have fervently researched and questioned past donations Trump has made or claimed to make.

“He's actually asked that I check with the folks in this room since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into the groups and organizations that have the best and most effective in helping and providing aid and he would love some suggestions from the folks here and I would be happy to take them,” Sanders said in the White House press briefing room.

Maybe Hillary can donate the proceeds from her book tour and book sales.

I'm sure Mo and Bo will be doing this ....

WH press corp very unimpressed when this was announced. They were clamoring to know if illegal aliens would be getting federal aid because of Hurricane Harvey.
Principles matter. Words matter.

Compassionate, some might say...empathetic gesture.  Empathy. Nothing says it like cold, hard cash.

(Gee, hope there's 'enough' empathy there to satisfy the empathy media)

From the posts of others I've read in other threads, sounds like a good chunk of it could go to the Salvation Army and be well-spent.

Maybe he should've made it a challenge, match donations from Senators up to $100,000 dollar for dollar, and $50,000 from Representatives. Then when asked later why he didn't do more, he can point to Congress.

Makes no difference. They'd call it a political stunt and then hammer him for it.  Nothing will satisfy the media gods. It's Trump.  They've admitted it's their mission to take him out on the pages of the New York Times.

The shame of it all is that he has to make this public. He has donated to a number of worthy charities over the years, but now to mollify the whiny pi$$ants he has to make these things public.

My first thought was that he would be attacked for giving such a "small" percentage of his wealth, while his contribution was more than I could ever afford.

Then I noticed that said contribution was announced by the White House press secretary?

Very good of him.  This is laudable.
