  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
After failing at their long-promised goal to repeal the taxes associated with ObamaCare, one has to wonder whether the Republican Party will succeed in implementing any tax reform at all. As William Gale of the Brookings Institution and Tax Policy Center told National Public Radio, “If Trump can’t line up support for healthcare, it’s going to be hard to see how he will be able to lead on tax reform.”

Don’t hold your breath on comprehensive tax reform

Tax reform under the current administration is unrealistic due in large part to the sheer volume of the tax code. The federal tax code is currently 74,608 pages long — and growing. There is little to no chance that significant shrinkage will occur in the near future. While it would be great if we could reduce the tax code to a single 8.5” by 11” piece of paper, that is clearly not going to happen any time soon.

I see nothing like actual tax reform on anyone's agenda.  There may be somemore mild tinkering around the edges of the Marxist income tax but I wouldn't count on even that.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Tax reform is like the Second Law of Thermodynamics: the complication and chaos always increases with each step. It never gets simpler.

Of course, part of the problem is that "reformers" can't seem to decide what exactly they want to DO. They're running out of tax credits they can hand out to the bottom of the pile.

I have already accepted the fact that the Republican Party has no intention of doing anything except go along with the Obama/Democrat Agenda, with the caveat that they think they can better manage Big Government Socialism.

The few stalwart Conservatives like Lee, Cruz and Paul - are about to find themselves.. hindered and eventually sidelined by their own party leadership from having any affect or future within the party, which has simply morphed into the Old Democrat Party - while the Marxists/Communists/Maoists took over the Democrat party direct and wholesale.

Conservatives and their agendas/positions are but shell game fodder to get votes by Democrats running as Republicans - and then doing nothing to rollback wha they promised while making Statism their own brand.

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

While in the short term this is accurate, eventually fiscal reality will assert itself. It's a matter of when, not if

Borrowing, spending, printing can't go on forever

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Yes, but they think they can keep kicking the can down the road, seeding the public mindset with blame in advance, and intending to fleece as much as possible to feather their own nests to weather the storm they think they are going to endure.

Those would be the smart ones.

The rest of them cannot see past their next campaign for re-election because everything they do revolves around that.
