Notre Dame: Man shot by French police after attacking them with hammer

French police have shot a man outside the Notre Dame in Paris after he tried to attack them with a hammer, according to local media.

The main square has been evacuated  and a police operation is underway.

Two "blasts" sparked panic among tourists amassed outside Notre Dame. A man was then seen "lying on the ground inert", according to a journalist with France Info who works by the cathedral.

The pictures of those in London and Paris with their hands up is disturbing. The very image of surrender to 7th century madness.

In a few more years we will see those chairs and pews shown in that picture of Notre Dame in Paris being replaced with Prayer rugs and shoeless muslims kneeling
