America’s Social Fabric Is Eroding. Government Must Avoid Feeding the Problem.

Sen. Mike Lee / @SenMikeLee / May 23, 2017 / comments

Many of America's ostensibly economic problems reflect the withering of our associational life.

Our nation, today, faces very real economic challenges. Economic growth during the recovery has been meager and uneven.

The U.S. economy has become less dynamic and innovative in recent decades. We miss the strong productivity growth America enjoyed in the mid-20th century and the unusually large wage gains it brought.

Government and politics CANNOT help but feed the problem.

That is their nature, along with the human version that seeks power and control.

No stopping it now.

No reversing it now.

The fundamental core of what constitutes a civil society has been breached in the culture and the country.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
The social fabric is eroding, but not equally across the nation. The interior of the nation is much more grounded than the coasts in a number of ways.

As our financial position continues to erode, it's going to cause a great deal of fracturing. If interest rates were a mere 8% today we'd spend half our tax revenue in paying interest. We would have to cut the military and social programs in half. Our cities would be burning and we'd barely be able to defend ourselves. That's not considering a recession where revenues would plunge and deficits would balloon.

The Federal problem is not going to get resolved. At some point, the states will have to fill in for the DC vacuum.

The Republic is lost.
