Byron York: The sordid case behind Jared Kushner's grudge against Chris Christie

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/byron-york-the-sordid-case-behind-jared-kushners-grudge-against-chris-christie/article/2620427?platform=hootsuite

By all accounts, Jared Kushner, the husband of President Trump's favorite daughter, has become an extraordinarily powerful man in the White House. To formally appoint Kushner a senior adviser, with a top security clearance, the president sought and received a Justice Department opinion declaring the White House exempt from federal anti-nepotism laws. That meant Kushner could have an official White House title to go along with his trusted-member-of-the-family influence.

But Kushner wielded plenty of power before joining the White House staff. For one thing, he is thought to have been behind the purging of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie from the presidential transition. Of course, Christie, tainted by Bridgegate, had problems of his own. But opposition from Kushner is said to have blocked Christie at key points during the campaign and transition.

I wonder if that DOJ opinion on nepotism is publicly available? I'd like for Congress take a look at this ruling. We know a lot about Bannon. Time to learn more about Jared (and Ivanka).

Jared Kushner, Beware of Jamie Gorelick

http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2017/01/jared_kushner_beware_of_jamie_gorelick.html

More than a few of my Washington allies noticed a seemingly unremarkable bit of news in a Monday Washington Post article that they thought I ought to see. The article concerned Jared Kushner’s appointment as adviser to his father-in-law Donald Trump.

The appointment did not trouble my friends. What troubled them was the Post’s casual mention that Kushner’s attorney was none other than Jamie Gorelick, deputy attorney general under President Bill Clinton. Observed the Post, Gorelick “is confident that the anti-nepotism statute does not cover Trump's appointment of Kushner.”

Nepotism was the thrust of the article. The Post made no allusion to the concerns my friends and I have about this relationship. I assured them that Kushner probably does not know Gorelick’s history. I write this to make him aware of why bloggers have taken to calling Gorelick, "The Mistress of Disaster."

Some recent highlights. In 2014, it was revealed that the George Soros-funded Urban Institute had an officially sanctioned role in the vetting of non-profits that seek tax-exempt status through the IRS. Gorelick was the vice-chairman of the Urban Institute board.

It's a PDF. Came up clean on my system.

TY @EC

Got it. A quick scan raises the question of whether to be dazzled by brilliance or baffled by bullshit.

edit to remove ref to Gorelick

Only skimmed it to make sure it was what you were asking for - legalese gives me a headache.

This is all very interesting, Byron York, in a "House of Cards" kind of way, Byron York! Or maybe in a "Game of Thrones" sort of way, Byron York. Are we supposed to start AND end the sentences with Byron York?

I still don't see how the President can get a pass on the anti-nepotism laws.
Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.

I don't either. The opinion that DOJ delivered is full of equivocation and "on the other hand...".

There are no checks and balances here.

The Executive defining what the Executive may do needs to be challenged.
