Trump's U.N. envoy says ouster of al-Assad is a priority of U.S.
Reuters, Apr 9, 2017, Timothy Gardner

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said in an interview that she sees regime change in Syria as one of the Trump administration's priorities in the country wracked by civil war.

Defeating Islamic State, pushing Iranian influence out of Syria, and the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad are priorities for Washington, Haley said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” which will air in full on Sunday.

"We don’t see a peaceful Syria with Assad in there," Haley said.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson seemed to take a more patient stance in regard to Assad, saying on Saturday that Washington's first priority is the defeat of Islamic State.

Once the threat from Islamic State has been reduced or eliminated, “I think we can turn our attention directly to stabilizing the situation in Syria,” Tillerson said in excerpts from an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” that will air in full on Sunday.

Tillerson said the United States is hopeful it can help bring parties together to begin the process of hammering out a political solution

ISIS or Al Qaeda are the most likely replacements

There have been numerous talks against Syrian opposition, guess what? ISIS and Al Qaeda were not invited to the negotiations in Russia, Kazakhstan and elsewhere.

George Sabra has been a leader of the Syrian opposition. Guess what? That's not a Muslim name.

Assad, the Assads in fact, can be implicated in the bombing of the Beirut Barracks carried out by their allies, Hezbollah, in Iranian actions that killed American and Coalition soldiers in Iraq; the president of Iraq even said the terrorism, Sunni-based terrorism was coming from Syria, Bush almost expanded the war into Syria, nothing will be solved with Assad there, even the Shia Cleric Moqtdar has called for Assad to step down.

Maliki Says Terrorism in Iraq 'Directly Related' to Syria

Frankly, Your Excellency, do you still think that the Assad regime was involved in terrorism in Iraq in 2009, in particular the attacks against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of state institutions?

Maliki:  That's a good question. Yes, we still believe that [terrorists] in Iraq were passing through Syrian territory into Iraq.

Bush assails Pelosi's trip to Syria

WASHINGTON — Representative Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, arrived in Damascus on Tuesday for a visit that the White House has strongly opposed and that many see as part of an attempt by the Democratic leader to sway American policy in the Middle East.

President George W. Bush criticized Pelosi's visit on Tuesday during a wide-ranging news conference at the White House. He said the visit sent "mixed signals" that "lead the Assad government to believe they are part of the mainstream of the international community, when in fact they are a state sponsor of terror."

Possible diplomatic message to Mr. Assad from the US:
=============================
Next week, we will send a luxury plane to Damascus. You and your immediate family are invited to board it, and be delivered to the destination of your choice (with the exception of the United States, Australia, New Zealand, or any NATO member nation).

If you choose NOT to board this plane, you can expect more incoming "aircraft" -- aimed directly for you and your family.

Choose.

I think if one assesses the situation, one sees, the refugee crisis is not down. If somehow we were to see what is happening in Syria as being "Western Propaganda", fat chance, the Middle East reports the same, one has to say Assad is not lowering the refugee problem at all.

Trump b-slapped down Putin well; pressure on him and Syria's regime will increase.

There will be no stability in the entire region until the Iranian mullahs have been removed from the government of that country.  Everything else is just treating symptoms.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
